Lahore: Four terrorists belonging to the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi group, who were planning attacks in Pakistan's central Punjab province, were arrested here today during a raid by police.
Among the arrested men was Fahad Munir, the nephew of slain Lashkar-e-Jhangvi leader Riaz Basra. Munir is wanted in several cases of sectarian violence and all the arrested men are facing charges of terrorism, police said.
Officials said the arrested men are being interrogated about their alleged involvement in suicide bombings. Explosive materials, detonators and automatic weapons were seized from possession of the men, who were planning terrorist attacks in Punjab province, officials said.
The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, blamed for a series of attacks on Pakistan's minority Shia community, was banned by the government in 2001. Basra was killed in a shootout with police in 2002.
