Havana: The European Union's Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel, was due in Havana today for talks with Cuban President Raul Castro s government.
Michel and Cuban authorities were to discuss relations between the European Union and the Americas only one-party communist regime.
The EU official was invited by Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma reported.
While Michel could meet with Raul Castro who was elected as successor to his brother longtime leader Fidel Castro February 24 his agenda was not yet set, European diplomatic sources said privately.
Michel, expected to be in Cuba through Sunday, was likely to meet with Vice President Carlos Lage, National Assembly speaker Ricardo Alarcon, Foreign Investment and Cooperation Minister Marta Lomas and Science and Technology Minister Fernando Gonzalez, the source added.
