Ancitipatory bail to Senthil Kumar cancelled
Friday, March 07, 2008 14:28 [IST]

Madurai: The Madras High Court today cancelled the anticipatory bail given to Senthil Kumar, who allegedly attempted to kill two highway officials and a police constable by running a car over them on February six at Udayarvilai in Kanyakumari district.

Justice K N Pasha of the Madurai bench of the court cancelled the anticipatory bail given earlier and issued the fresh order.

The cancellation followed a request from police, who said that he was involved in a serious crime of attempting to murder the highways officials, who were removing encroachments on government land, as per high court orders.

When the officials, including junior engineer Sundaram, assistant engineer Xavier, thasildhar Kanakasabhapathy, revenue officer Abdul Manna and village officer Susheela were overseeing the encroachment removal operation, Senthil Kumar (25), the son of the temple trustee Arjunan, drove his car and hit the highways officials.

Three persons, including Sundaram, Anthony Xavier and head constable Vincent were injured.

Police arrested Arjunan (58) and his wife Kaneesh Bai (50) on February 6.

Both have already been released on bail, while Senthil Kumar, who got bail earlier, surrendered before the Thaklay court on March 5 and got anticipatory bail.
