New Delhi: Amid a severe power crisis in the capital triggered by the Northern Grid failure, Delhi Metro had a smooth sail today, with its services remaining unaffected.
Metro officials attributed the smooth functioning of the rail network on advance planning for such eventualities.
"We have purposely planned the electricity distribution and management in such a fashion that if there is a shortage of supply at any one location, supply of power can happen through the other sub-stations to ensure uninterrupted supply to the Metro system," said DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal.
The Delhi Metro draws its power through the sub-stations of Delhi Transco Ltd which supplies the power to the rail network at six locations namely Rithala, Kashmere Gate, New Delhi Station, Indraprastha, Subhash Nagar and Dwarka.
The Metro s power supply system has been scientifically designed in such a manner that all six sub-stations of DMRC are interlinked and power supply can be switched from one line to another in emergency.
Two of the sub-stations located at New Delhi and Indraprastha get their power from the Gas Turbine Plant located at Indraprastha and today, while there was a problem in the entire Northern Grid, the Metro managed to maintain its power supply through Gas Turbine distribution.
The Operation Control Centre located at Shastri Park was extremely active today in monitoring and switching the power supply from one source to another efficiently to ensure smooth movement of trains, Dayal said. Source : PTI
