Dubai: An Indian nurse working at a government hospital in Najran, Saudi Arabia will be deported for allegedly causing an accidental switching of two new born babies of Turkish and Saudi parents.

She will also be banned from working in the country again. A committee set up to investigate the incident which happened four years ago also recommended similar punishment to an Egyptian doctor and another Filipino nurse on duty at the time.

A third nurse, who is a Saudi national, escaped with a fine. Interestingly, the Turkish father had pointed out that his baby was brown.

He thought that the child was illegitimate and wanted to kill his wife after the hospital refused to heed his protests.

But a DNA test in Turkey proved that the baby was not his. He returned to Najran to file a case, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported yesterday.

The two families have received SR600,000 (Rs 6 million) in compensation from Saudi Arabian government.

Both families currently live in villas adjacent to each other and are receiving social and psychological help to prepare the two boys to return to their biological parents.
