CPI(M) protests attack on party office
Monday, March 10, 2008 17:12 [IST]
New Delhi: CPI(M) activists today staged a demonstration here to protest against the attack on their party office allegedly by RSS-BJP members and demanded arrest of the guilty.

Nearly 500 party activists assembled at Jantar Mantar, carrying placards demanding the arrest of Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi and Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra in connection with yesterday's incident.

Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) Central Committee member P M S Grewal said, "We demand that the police should arrest all culprits involved in the whole episode irrespective of the party they belong to or the designation they hold. We want security to be beefed up in the offices of all political parties."

Other leaders present in the demonstration included Mohammad Amin, Tarip Topdar, Inderjit Singh, Dipankar Mukherjee, Sudha Sunderamam, Niloptal Basu, Yogender Sharma and S R Pillai.

"We are no more Gandhiwaadi. If we are attacked, we will reciprocate with the same. The BJP and RSS are followers of the fascist culture. We are political. So we not protesting in front of their office but here in public," Grewal said.

"Our party secretary's house in Bangalore was vandalised. They broke expensive things in his house..We appeal to all democratic parties to isolate this party," Pillai said.

Basu said the incident was not an attack on the CPI(M) but an attack on democracy.
