Scheme to improve Water Table in Haryana
Monday, March 10, 2008 18:38 [IST]
Chandigarh: Haryana's Command Area Development Authority (CADA) has decided to implement a scheme to improve the water table in those areas of the state where it has been depleting continuously.

An official spokesman said here today that the scheme has already been implemented in Sirsa district as a pilot project.

Under this scheme 60 recharge soft and five water storage tanks were being constructed to improve the water table.

He said that in each block of Sirsa district, the panchayat land would be identified and ten recharge soft takns would be constructed in each block.

He said that according to a scientific report when we add 10 lakh liters of rain water or canal water in saline water of an area, that water pushes the saline water to the other side and it is replaced with sweet water.

The scientists had installed tubewells after conducting such experiments and these tubewells were now pumping out sweet water, he said.

He said that in Mangala village of Sirsa district, a multipurpose field drainage and surplus canal water storage tank would be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.33 lakh and it would be filled with water.

Simultaneously, tanks and water channels would be constructed to store rain water. The cattle in the village would also drink water from this tank and farmers would be able to utilise this water for irrigation by installing pumps.

In Mangala village, 24 recharge soft would be set up over an area of 24 acres. Each recharge soft would cost Rs. 20,000.

He said that CADA has a plan to recharge water in Panchayati land of villages and initially six villages have been identified for the purpose in the district Sirsa.
