Democrats in Florida propose June 3 re-vote
Friday, March 14, 2008 01:05 [IST]

Washington: The Democratic party in Florida said today it has proposed a repeat presidential primary on June 3 that would combine mail-in ballots with in-person voting.

The proposal was set out in a memorandum to national party leaders and the two rivals vying for the party s presidential nomination, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and New York Senator Hillary Clinton, Alejandro Millar, a spokesman for the state Democratic party, told AFP.

Details of the proposal were to be presented at a press conference later today, Millar said, amid a mounting dispute over how Florida should be represented at the Democratic party s convention in August.

The memo calls for refining the plan over the next month and raising funds for the special election, which would cost an estimated 10 to 12 million dollars. But it remained unclear who would foot the bill for the vote.
