12 killed in Bangladesh bus-truck collision

Dhaka: At least 12 people were killed and 11 injured in southern Bangladesh Friday as a bus carrying a wedding party collided head-on with a truck before plunging into a ditch, police and witnesses said.

The accident happened near the farming town of Gournadi in Barisal province, about 260 km south of the capital, Dhaka. Local police said six people were killed on the spot while six others critically wounded died on the way to a hospital some 25 km away.

All the dead were from the bus which was hired to transport the guests to a marriage ceremony in the neighbouring town of Agaljhara, private TV station Channel I said.
