Japanese journos hurt in Islamabad blast: Kyodo
Sunday, March 16, 2008 15:46 [IST]
Tokyo: Two journalists from Japan's Kyodo News were injured in the powerful bomb blast that tore through an Italian restaurant in the Pakistani Capital Islamabad, the news agency said today. Kyodo News said the two were its Islamabad bureau chief Motonobu Endo, 32, and former bureau chief Toshihisa Onishi, 34.

Onishi suffered a broken jaw in yesterday's blast and was taken to hospital. "His injuries are not life-threatening," the news agency said citing hospital officials. Endo suffered slight injuries, Kyodo said. The explosion ripped through an Italian restaurant popular among foreign residents in the Pakistani capital, killing a Turkish woman.

Islamabad police said 10 other foreigners were injured. Besides the Japanese, the wounded included at least four Americans including US embassy personnel, one German, one Italian and a Canadian, officials said. The explosion at the Luna Caprese restaurant, one of the few in Islamabad that serves alcohol, appeared to be the first targeting foreigners amid a string of attacks in the country blamed on Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.
