Kolkata: The Kolkata Police is drawing up a 10-year perspective plan for the modernisation of the force, which includes setting up of a second police headquarters, aerial surveillance in case of emergency and mobile forensic laboratory for crime investigation.
"We are planning to have 361 police personnel in a model police station to be manned by five officers-in-charge. This model will be followed in all mega cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore" Kolkata Police Commissioner, Goutam Mohan Chakraborty said.
The jurisdiction covered by such a police station will be 1.5 to 2 square km and it will serve a population of of 2,00,0000. Such stations will have waiting room for visitors, CCTVs in lock-up and interrogation rooms," Chakraborty said.
Each station will have a recreation area for police personnel and will also have an add-on facility like gym and other recreating amenities.
Apart from that, as a part of the modernisation programme, separate police headquarter will also be set up at 300 and 306 B B Ganguly Street- very close to the present headquarter to off load the pressure from the present building at Lalbazar.
This megacity programme will not only restrict itself to the city but will include neighbouring districts like Howrah, Hoogly North and South 24 Paragans. The 10-year modernisation blue print will aim at creating uniform manpower base at all police stations.
