Islamabad: Pakistan's Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdul Hamid Dogar has convened a meeting of the full court tomorrow against the backdrop of efforts by the PPP and PML-N to reinstate judges who were deposed during last year's emergency.
Apex court sources said Dogar, who was appointed Chief Justice by President Pervez Musharraf during the emergency, will preside over the meeting to be attended by all 15 judges of the Supreme Court.
The meeting will be held after the court s working hours, they said.
The Pakistan People s Party and PML-N, which are set to form a coalition government after sweeping last month s general election, have said they will reinstate the deposed judges within 30 days of the convening of the new National Assembly.
The National Assembly today had its first session after the polls, during which the newly elected MPs were administered the oath by the outgoing Speaker.
During the emergency, Musharraf sacked some 60 judges of the superior judiciary, including Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who was heading a bench that was hearing petitions challenging the President s re-election for a second five-year term.
Dogar and other judges hand-picked by Musharraf later validated his re-election. Observers have said the deposed judges could re-open the case once they are reinstated.
