Fahim proposes Zardari's name for Pak PM post
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 08:54 [IST]
Islamabad: Pakistan People's Party vice chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim has proposed that party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari should be the prime ministerial candidate of the new coalition government to be formed in the country.

Fahim made the proposal to Zardari during a meeting here. Asked by reporters after the meeting if he was still a candidate for premiership, Fahim said: "I told him (Zardari) that he should be the candidate for the post of prime minister, and we will all support you.

"I have made the proposal on my part, it is up to him to take a decision," he said.

Fahim was the front-runner for the post till he was sidelined by the party following reports that he had been meeting President Pervez Musharraf and members of the military establishment without informing Zardari.

Fahim had told reporters this morning that he was still a candidate for premiership.
