LTTE channel in Italy shut down: report
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 18:20 [IST]

Colombo: An illegal TV channel allegedly operated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Italy has been shut down by the Italian Police.

"The Tamil V Channel - Euro Television has been transmitting programmes about the situation in Sri Lanka in favour of the banned terrorist outfit since the beginning of this month in Italy and it has been shut since March 13," a media report said here today.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Italy Hemantha Warnakulasuriya thanked the Italian Government for the prompt action, the Asian Tribune website reported.

"We will monitor the actual situation in this regard," he said. The test transmission of the EuroTelevision telecasted an old interview of slain Tamil National Alliance MP K Sivanesan.

Though the studio for the new TV channel was located in Switzerland, it was televised from Milan in Italy, it said.
