China protests Brown's decision to meet Dalai Lama
Thursday, March 20, 2008 07:57 [IST]

Beijing: Future plans of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to meet Tibetan leader Dalai Lama has not gone well with China.

On Wednesday, China came heavily on British PM's plan and expressed its 'serious concerns' on it.

Earlier, British PM had conversation with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on the ongoing violence in Tibet and asked him to take immediate steps to end it.

While officially reacting on Brown's plan, China's foreign ministry spokesman, Qin Gang said, "China is seriously concerned about the message (Brown's remarks on his willingness to meet the Dalai Lama),"

"As we have repeatedly pointed out, Dalai is a political refugee engaged in activities of splitting China under the camouflage of religion," he added.
