Knight Foundation donates $25 million to Newseum
Thursday, March 20, 2008 09:20 [IST]

Washington: A journalism museum set to open next month in Washington has received a $25 million donation from the John S and James L Knight Foundation.

The Newseum says the grant is its largest donation to date. In return for the gift, the Newseum will name two broadcast studios and a conference center in honour of the Knight brothers. One of the studios will be the home of the ABC program "This Week With George Stephanopoulos."

The Knight brothers grew one of the nation's largest newspaper companies, starting with the Beacon-Journal in Akron, Ohio. Their company became Knight Ridder Inc and was sold to McClatchy Co in 2006.

Previous donations to the Newseum include $10 million from The New York Times Co and $10 million from News Corp, which owns The Wall Street Journal, Fox News Channel and the New York Post. The $450 million Newseum is set to open April 11.
