No witch hunt on members of PML-Q regime
Friday, March 21, 2008 23:41 [IST]

Islamabad: Ahead of the formation of a new government in Pakistan, the PPP today said it will not conduct any "witch hunt" against members of the previous PML-Q regime.

"The PPP doesn't want confrontation with anyone. There are many problems confronting the country. The new government will have to tackle many challenges, including financial problems, terrorism and unemployment," PPP spokesperson Sherry Rehman told reporters.

However, a Truth and Reconciliation Commission will be set up and parliamentary committees, including the public accounts, finance and economic committees, will be strengthened to ensure accountability, she said.

The PPP today said its chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will announce its candidate for prime ministership by tomorrow night.

The PPP also called for the summoning of the four provincial assemblies. "The National Assembly session has been called on March 24 to elect the prime minister. We hope the provincial assemblies will be convened as soon as possible, Rehman said.
