Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani today informed his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh that Islamabad remains committed to seeking the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues with New Delhi, including the Kashmir issue.
Gillani made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Singh, who said India wants to strengthen bilateral relations with Pakistan and would continue the policy it followed with earlier governments.
A statement from Gillani's media office said the new premier expressed satisfaction over developments in bilateral relations and "emphasised the need and importance of peace and stability in the region for the common benefit of the people of the two countries".
Pakistan is committed to seeking a peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues with India, including Kashmir, Gillani said.
He said the two countries are "already engaged in a peace process and have agreed on a number of confidence-building measures which include people-to-people contacts, cultural exchanges and bilateral trade".
Gillani expressed the hope that these relations would further grow for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries.
Singh congratulated Gillani on assuming the office of the Prime Minister as well as the wedding of his son yesterday.
Reiterating the Indian government's commitment to improve relations with Pakistan, Singh said leaders of both countries need to keep in constant contact with each other.
