Kathmandu: The Madhesi armed groups, which threatened to disrupt Constituent Assembly polls slated for April 10, have accepted the government's offer for dialogue, Nepal said today.
The armed groups, including Madhesi Mukti Tigers, Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha-Jwalasingh, All Terai Liberation Front, are now ready to sit for a dialogue, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ramchandra Poudyal said.
"We sent them a letter requesting for talks and they asked us to create a panel to hold dialogue with them. It will be formed in a couple of days time," he said.
Some of the Madhesi groups have alleged discrimination at the hands of successive governments. They have been agitating for greater economic and political rights including autonomy for the people in the Terai region and have vowed to disrupt the polls.
Last month, Nepal government signed a deal with the United Madhesi Democratic Front, an alliance of three Terai parties, and agreed to fulfill their demands for more rights, representation and autonomy. Source : PTI
