Seized revolver didn't kill Rajbir!
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 21:56 [IST]
Gurgaon: In a new turn to the murder of Delhi Police's controversial encounter specialist Rajbir Singh, doubts have cropped up about the claim made by his alleged assassin that the police officer's own revolver recovered from the scene of crime here was used to kill him.

Rajbir's alleged killer Vijay Bhardwaj, a property dealer, had claimed that he had gunned down the police officer on Monday night with the .32 revolver recovered from the scene of the crime and the weapon was given to him by Singh himself three days before the incident.

Sources, however, said the two bullets that hit Singh were apparently not fired from the recovered weapon, hinting at the possibility of another gun having been used in the crime.

The picture will be clear after the ballistic report is received, the sources said.

Joint Commissioner of Gurgaon Police Manjit Singh Ahlawat today said a police team has been sent to Kanpur where the seized revolver was manufactured.

The police team will seek to establish the identity of the owner of the weapon and how it reached Bhardwaj, he said.

The police has seized two empty cartridges from the spot of the crime and two live cartridges from the weapon, said Ahlawat, adding two shots had been fired at Singh.

Singh, controversial police officer with 56 kills to his credit, was shot dead on Monday night here over a dispute on "investments" he had made with Bhardwaj.
