NHRC concerned over arrest of Tibetans in Nepal
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 22:11 [IST]

Kathmandu: Nepal police today arrested some Tibetan refugees and human rights activists when they were holding a peaceful demonstration against China's crackdown in Tibet.

The police today arrested dozens of Tibetan refugees and some human rights activists from a peaceful demonstration outside the United Nations Office building in Kathmandu, Nepal's National Human Rights Commission said.

The Commission expressed concern over the arrest of the protesters and asked the authorities to respect people's right to peaceful assembly and demonstrations.

The NHRC also urged the Tibetan refugees to respect the law of the land.

The Tibetans have been holding protest demonstrations here almost on daily basis to oppose the recent crackdown by China in Tibet.
