Gillani urges UN to probe into Bhutto's killing
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 23:55 [IST]

United Nations: Pakistan's new Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani today sought an inquiry by the United Nations into the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

Gillani made the request during a telephonic conservation he had had with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki moon.

A United Nations spokesperson said that Ban informed Pakistani prime minister that the request had to come from the government and Gillani said that Parliament would initiate the process shortly.

The request has to be made to the Secretary General who would then pass it on to the Security Council which would finally decide on the matter.

Gillani raised the issue when Ban telephoned him to congratulate him on his taking over as Pakistan's new prime minister, the spokesperson said.
