Islamabad: Twenty-eight people have been killed and over 40 injured in fierce clashes between two rival tribes in northwestern Pakistan, officials said today.
Twenty-eight people were killed and over 40 wounded in clashes over the past five days, District Coordination Officer Kamran Zeb told reporters.
The clashes erupted after 17 people were killed during a jirga in the Kachai area of Kohat district of the region earlier, an offical said.
The rival tribes from Aurakzai Agency and the Kachai area have been targeting each other with mortars and heavy weapons, they said.
The political administration of Aurakzai Agency and officials in Kohat are trying to broker a ceasefire but their efforts have not been successful so far, reports said.
