Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani today said his government will adhere to the vision of slain former premier Benazir Bhutto, particularly focusing on improving health and education facilities across the country.
The new government formed by the Pakistan People's Party and its allies will take "all necessary steps to increase employment opportunities, particularly in underdeveloped areas", and to create income generation opportunities for the people, Gillani said.
The government will "take along all the political parties in the ruling coalition in order to find lasting solutions to the challenges" confronting Pakistan, Gillani was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's office.
Gillani's remarks came in the course of a meeting with delegations of the People's Doctors Forum and People's Engineers Forum. The delegations lauded the premier's gesture of ordering the release of deposed judges and said it had boosted the credibility of his government.
Meanwhile, President Pervez Musharraf told a six-member US Congressional delegation that the new government "will enjoy his full cooperation".
Musharraf also stressed the "importance of political stability to ensure focus on economic growth, social development and the fight against extremism and terrorism", said an official statement.
The delegation led by Congressman John Tierney called on Musharraf at the presidency today. Recent political developments, Pakistan-US relations and the regional situation were discussed during the meeting.
