New Delhi: Congress today sought to dismiss a complaint against party President Sonia Gandhi charging her with outraging religious feelings of the Hindus in her portrayal as Goddess Durga in a poster at the party's Moradabad office in Uttar Pradesh.
Party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said when the incident had come to light last year, the party had immediately removed the Moradabad DCC president.
"Since immediate steps have been taken in this regard, the matter should be treated as closed," he said adding Gandhi could not be held responsible for the actions of others in the country or outside.
Muzaffarpur District Judge H K Srivastava yesterday had admitted the complaint filed by an advocate Sudhir Ojha against Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh and Moradabad district party presidents.
After admitting the petition, Srivastava transferred it to fast-track Judge V K Mandal for initiating legal proceedings.
On December 1,2007,a magistrate had dismissed Ojha's petition that prompted the lawyer to move the court of the district judge on December 11,2007.
The fast track court is likely to take up hearing of the case next month.
