Columbus (US): Two people were killed and two more critically wounded in a shooting in the parking deck of a hospital in Georgia, authorities have said.

A suspect was shot by a plainclothes officer and was being treated at the hospital, police said yesterday.

Police Chief Ricky Boren said police received a call that shots were fired at Doctors Hospital in western Georgia, and an officer spotted an armed man leaving the facility and saw him shoot a bystander in the head. That victim was in critical condition and in surgery, Boren said.

The officer followed the man to another part of the parking deck where the suspect opened fire on the police.

Witnesses told WTVM-TV that the suspect s mother died yesterday morning, and he returned to the hospital with a gun.

The parking deck of Doctor s Hospital was under lockdown, with about a dozen officers securing the area.
