Five Indians duped by agent in Bahrain
Friday, March 28, 2008 15:10 [IST]
Dubai: Five Indian workers, who went to Bahrain through a middleman were forced to leave after the sponsors refused to register them and cancelled their visas.

The workers had come to Bahrain six months ago on a contract of two years with a construction company. An Indian middleman for the company had recruited them from India after taking a sum of $3,449 each for visas and air fares.

The workers, who were allegedly duped by the agent, had to leave the country after the promised job did not materialise, media reports said.

Peer Mohammed Asim, Muhammed Sali, Moideen Kannu Zakkir Hussain and Aaliyar Peer Muhammed, from Nagarkoil, Tamil Nadu, and Sunil Kumar from Trivandrum, Kerala, flew out on an Oman Air flight to Trivandrum on Tuesday.

The workers were stranded overnight at Bahrain International Airport on Monday after their visa were cancelled by the sponsors.

The Bahraini sponsor forced them to leave after he was asked by the Labour Market Regularity Authority (LMRA) to register the workers under new rules, said the Gulf Daily News.

The Indian agent, however said that he was not to be blamed as he was sent to India to recruit the workers by the Bahraini sponsor.
