Haryana govt for CBI probe into Rajbir's murder
Friday, March 28, 2008 16:56 [IST]
Chandigarh: The Haryana government today decided to seek a CBI probe into the murder of Delhi Police's encounter specialist Rajbir Singh following a request by the slain cop's family for such an investigation.

"On the demand of the family of the deceased, I have directed the state DGP to request (the Centre) for an investigation into the killing of ACP Rajbir Singh by the CBI," Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, told reporters outside the state assembly here.

"It is being done as the family members of the deceased police officer rang me up late last night requesting that the murder be probed by CBI," Hooda said, without giving details as to who from the family had telephoned him.

The chief minister said that the government wanted the CBI probe to "look into the circumstances leading to his murder".

Property dealer Vijay Bhardwaj has "confessed" to the police that he had killed the ACP on Monday night in Gurgaon. The Gurgaon and Delhi police, who are presently investigating the case, have arrested Bhardwaj.
