World to switch off lights for one hour tomorrow
Friday, March 28, 2008 22:48 [IST]
New Delhi: Millions of people including businessmen and governments across the world will do their bit in fighting global warming by switching off lights tomorrow for one hour at 8 pm, marked as Earth Hour.

Earth Hour 2008 is a global event created to symbolise that each of us working together can make positive impact on climate change.

Although officially India is not participating in the environment-friendly event, NGOs and activists have decided to join the fight against global warming.

At this point if we continue to go on the power use trajectory of the industrialised West, that has messed up the planet, would be a huge problem, as there will never be that kind of energy available, Vandana Shiva, environmentalist said.

She added that the limitless energy appetite will create power crisis a power crisis city like Delhi as it is a city with huge population and our resources are limited.
