Bangalore: Having pitched for giving young faces greater representation in the Congress, party MP Rahul Gandhi today said there should be a blend of youth and experience in the leadership of the organisation.
Speaking to reporters here on the last day of his tour of Karnataka, Gandhi said, "youth bring energy and senior leaders have experience with them. Party's experience cannot be thrown away. There has to be a balance." He was responding to a query on his apparent preference for youth taking over the reigns of politics in the country.
Gandhi said he was in favour of challenging the present system and reiterated his call for internal democracy in party. On being asked for his comment on the party high command, he said, "you should be clear that we have democracy in the country. Why don't we have democracy in the party system?"
"I am here to stay for the long term and I will ask this question again and again. I will ask fundamental questions like having democracy within the party," he said. Asked about claims by his political opponents that he has failed to bring victory for the party in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, he said: "you are wrong if you think four public rallies can change the way politics is run."
