Kathmandu: Nepal's Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel has assured the citizens that the election to the Constituent Assembly would be held on the stipulated date of April 10.
"The country is completely devoted towards the crucial poll and there was no need to worry," Pokharel told reporters in Tanahun district in western Nepal during his visit to take stock of election preparations.
The CA election would bring peace and stability to the country, he said and stressed on making the election process free of violence and any other type of untoward incidents. The preparations for the elections have reached their final stage, officials at the Election Commission said. Some 17.6 million people are going to exercise their franchise on April 10 to choose the future political system of Nepal.
About 38,000 temporary voters, including the government employees would be casting their votes in Kathmandu district during the forthcoming elections. Separate polling stations would be arranged for them whose permanent residences are located outside Kathmandu valley.
These temporary voters include among others army personnel and police forces, Maoist combatants inside the UN-monitored cantonments, jail inmates and security persons deputed to the polling centres, officials said. Nepalese citizens who have completed 18 years of age till November 2007 are eligible to caste their votes in the polls.
A delegation of German Parliament will also be visiting Nepal from tomorrow to observe the election process. The five-member delegation headed by Chairman of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development Thilo Hopp will observe the on-going peace process, the CA polls and to assess the human rights situation in the country, officials said.
