Tuesday, April 01, 2008 06:10 [IST]

Madrid: Women will be the theme of Madrid's seventh annual Indian film festival which gets underway in May, organisers said today. "The role of women in cinema, their perspective as directors and the influence of women as a motor of change in society will be the focus of the event," organisers said in a statement.

Seventy-five films, including 15 Asian and ten Arab movies, will be screened between May 23 and June 2 as part of Imagine India , which will feature a retrospective of works by Indian directors Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Mani Kaul.

Eleven films will compete for five prizes: best picture, best director, best actor, best actress and best music. Among the films which will be shown is Goutam Ghose 1994 film Patang , about a lonesome desert train stop town and the hopeless characters that live there; and Reema Kagti s 2007 film "HoneyMoon Travels" depicting a bus trip by six newly-married couples to Goa on package honeymoon tour.
