260 Tibetan protesters arrested in Nepal
Tuesday, April 01, 2008 16:11 [IST]

Kathmandu: At least 260 Tibetan protesters, including women, were arrested today near the Chinese embassy in the Nepalese capital as they staged anti-Beijing demonstrations demanding independence for their Himalayan homeland.

The arrested protesters included 118 women, police said. Some of the demonstrators also sustained injuries when they clashed with police, who tried to disperse them.

The protesters demonstrated in front of the Chinese embassy demanding freedom and human rights in Tibet, the latest in a series of protests being staged by Tibetans here following the violent pro-independence demonstrations in the Tibetan capital Lhasa last month.
