Indian actor found dead in Sydney hotel
Thursday, April 03, 2008 19:11 [IST]
Melbourne: A 30-year-old Indian actor, who was part of an acclaimed Indian production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, was found dead in mysterious circumstances in a Sydney hotel.

The actor, whose name and other details are witheld by the Sydney police until his family in India has been informed, was found dead on March 2, three days after the Sydney season of the production ended.

The British director Tim Supple's multilingual production of the Shakespearean comedy was staged at the Sydney Theatre from March 11-22.

Police said the Indian was found dead by staff in a hotel at Hosking Place in the central business district of Sydney at about 3pm, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The death was not suspicious and the matter had been referred to the coroner, they added.

The show had been presented by Arts Projects Australia. In a statement it said, "A member of Dash Arts Production (who performed A Midsummer Night's Dream) has died in Sydney some days after the conclusion of the Sydney season of the production.

"Until police inquiries and a post-mortem is complete, we have no knowledge of the cause of death but believe that it was due to natural causes and that there are no suspicious circumstances," it added.
