Kathmandu: Over 100 observers from India and 21 other countries will monitor Nepal's crucial Constituent Assembly polls on April 10.
The observers under the banner of Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) would make sure that the elections were held in a credible manner in about 60 districts across the country.
The ANFREL has deputed the second largest observation mission in Nepal after the European Union Election Observation Team.
Retd General Saiyud Kerdphol, former Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Army and chairman of ANFREL, arrived here yesterday and was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission and spokesperson for ANFREL Damaso G Magbual from Philippines.
The observers have come from 22 countries, including India, Myanmar and Japan.
"Asian communities are in solidarity with the Nepali people in their desire for a free and fair election. This is a critical and historical opportunity for Nepal to restore peace and democracy. The Nepali people deserve a non-violent election environment in which they can vote without fear" said Kerdphol in a goodwill message to the people of Nepal. Source : PTI
