New Delhi: The Supreme Court today stayed the execution of death sentence awarded by a TADA Court to Zakir Hussain Noor Mohammed for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan issued a notice to CBI on an appeal filed by Zakir Hussain against the TADA Court judgement.

He was convicted for allegedly planting RDX, undergoing training in Pakistan to handle arms and ammunition and attended a meeting of the conspirators responsible for the blasts.

The TADA court had convicted 100 persons and awarded death penalty to 12 of them for their involvement in the case.

Among those convicted was actor Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to six years imprisonment under the Arms Act. A total of 123 people were named as accused in the case.
