14 killed in drug shootout in Mexico
Monday, April 07, 2008 09:30 [IST]

Mexico City: An armed clash between rival drug gangs in northern Mexico left at least 14 people dead, the daily newspaper El Universal has reported.

The shootout continued for hours on Saturday in the cities of Parral and Matamoros in the state of Chihuahua, which borders the US.

Mexico's federal government recently sent special anti-narcotics security forces to Chihuahua to combat drug traffickers.

The defence minister ordered reinforcements on Sunday to Chihuahua to quell the violence.
