Pak: Olympics torch relay shouldn't be politicised
Friday, April 11, 2008 02:29 [IST]

Islamabad: Pakistan's Foreign Ministry says the Olympic Games in China and its torch relay should not be politicized.

Ministry spokesman Mohammed Sadiq said today that the games and the torch relay "should be allowed to continue without being politicized".

The Olympic torch is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday.

Protests have disrupted the torch relay during stops in Britain, France and the United States. Demonstrators are raising objections to China's human rights record, its rule of Tibet and its support for the governments of Myanmar and Sudan.

Pakistan and China are stalwart allies. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf left Thursday for a six-day visit to China.
