Mumbai/Nagpur: The new terminal building of the Dr Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur will be inaugurated on April 14.
The new terminal to be opened by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has been modified and upgraded to cater to the increased traffic at the airport at a cost of Rs 79 crore by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
It is equipped with modern facilities like central air-conditioning, passenger boarding bridges with visual docking guidance system, escalators, lifts, baggage conveyor system in arrival as well as departure halls, CCTVs, Flight Information Display System (FIDS) and other modern passenger amenities of international standards.
The building covers an area of 17,500 sq meter and has a capacity to handle 400 arriving and departing domestic passengers each and 150 arriving and departing international passengers each during peak hours. The new terminal building has been provided with 20 check-in counters and 20 immigration counters along with modern facilities like a restaurant, snack bar, child-care room, bank, ATM, duty free shop and medical inspection rooms.
The AAI has also constructed a new approach road to connect the terminal building with the main highway for providing better connectivity to the passengers. The AAI is also seized of the need to improve the AIR traffic management and communication, Navigation facilities at Nagpur airport. It also plans to construct a new control tower and technical block with all modern facilities.
Maharashtra ministers Satish Chaturvedi (Textile), Vijaysingh Mohite Patil (Tourism), Ajit Pawar (Water Resources), Anil Deshmukh (PWD), Anees Ahmad (Dairy Development), Chandrakant Handore (Social Welfare), Manohar Naik (Food and Drug) along with state BJP president Nitin Gadkari, are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony.
