Two Indian engineers killed in Afghan blast
Saturday, April 12, 2008 11:36 [IST]

New Delhi: Two personnel of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were on Saturday killed and several others injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near a convoy of Indian road construction workers in south west Afghanistan.

The victims were on way to a construction site when the suicide bomber struck in Herat, official sources said here.

Further details are awaited. Nearly 400 BRO personnel are engaged in construction of a key highway between Zaranj and Delaram in Afghanistan as part of India's assistance programme for reconstruction of the war-torn country.

Taliban has been opposed to India's engagement in development and reconstruction work in Afghanistan and have been issuing threats from time to time.

In December 2005, the Taliban kidnapped and killed a BRO driver M R Kutty, with a demand that all Indians should leave the country.
