Malkangiri: A tribal village headman was killed by maoists, while two naxalites were gunned down in two separate incidents in Orissa's Malkangiri district, police said today.
Thirty-year-old Raba Subal, village head of Urbali in Motu area, about 100 km from here, was taken by a group of Maoists into dense forests near the village last night and shot dead, Superintendent of Police S K Gajbhiye said.
The ultras killed the village head as they were apparently unable to get support like food and other facilities, police sources said adding, a combing operation has been launched in the area after the incident.
This was the 11th incident in the district in which a village head was killed by naxalites in last two years. Village head of Peta, Madkani Kanha, was killed by maoists on April 9, while another village head had been killed in the same area on April 5.
In another incident in Chitrakonda area, about 80 km from here, two naxalites were gunned down in a fierce encounter with a police team from Andhra Pradesh in the border area of Jodamba and Paparmetla, Gajbhiye said.
The police team from the neighbouring state raided a naxal camp and killed two ultras in the gunbattle that ensued last night, besides recovering huge quantities of explosives, arms and ammunition, he said. Source : PTI
