Cuba seeks changes in UN Security Council
Saturday, April 12, 2008 16:29 [IST]

United Nations (Prensa Latina): Cuba has said true UN reform will be impossible without changes in the Security Council, based on a broad comprehensive approach.

Cuban Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca made these remarks on Friday before the working group of the UN General Assembly to discuss the reform of the world body. He reiterated full cooperation of his delegation attending the conference.

"Security Council reform cannot remain an objective that is put off and pushed into the background," the Cuban diplomat said, adding that this measure is part of the UN reorganisation as a whole.

"A real process of transformation must take place to guarantee openness in the UN work and decision-making process, as well as the return to duties conferred by the UN Charter," he said.
