New Delhi: Tibeten monks and nuns based in Dharamsala today alleged the Chinese government had enforced an economic blocade by cutting off food and water supplies to monasteries in Tibet to curb the pro-independence movement.
Some 100 monks and nuns carrying portraits of Mahatama Gandhi and Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama took part in a peaceful rally here to protest alleged human rights violations in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
"To put pressure on us, the Chinese army has in the last 10 days surrounded the monasteries, snapping water and food supply for the monks staying there," Tseten Norbu, chief coordinator of Tibetan Solidarity Committee of Delhi Chapter said.
He claimed that monks staying in monasteries in TAR were on the verge on starvation due to the blockade. Source : PTI
