Chattisgarh CM to take tips from Modi
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 14:54 [IST]

Raipur: In a bid to help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retain power, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh left for Gujarat on Tuesday to meet his counterpart Narendra Modi to collect tips on "how to do a Gujarat in state's assembly polls".

The assembly election in the state is due later this year.

In a three-day trip to the BJP-ruled coastal state, Singh will hold meeting with Chief Minister Narendra Modi who notched up an impressive victory last December to retain power.

Raman Singh was appointed chief minister of the first BJP government in Chhattisgarh in December 2003.

"Singh will have a lengthy meeting on Tuesday with Modi and of course political issues of the country will be discussed," a senior government official said while refusing to provide details of the issues to be taken up during discussion between the two BJP-ruled states' chief ministers.

But, sources said Raman Singh will discuss how to handle issues and tackle the opposition's game-plan in the run up to the assembly polls to ensure that BJP comes back to power in the state.

BJP sources said that it's not only Raman Singh but also Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje who will travel to Gujarat in coming weeks to collect tips to ensure BJP's success in their states.

BJP-ruled Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to go to polls by October-November this year.

After meeting Modi, Singh will visit Hindu pilgrimage town Dwarka and temple town Somnath before returning to Chhattisgarh April 17.
