Kathmandu: Nearly 60 Tibetans were detained today after they resumed anti-China protests in front of the Chinese embassy here.
The police broke the rally attended by hundreds of Tibetans and arrested nearly 60 protestors rallying in front of the Chinese Consulate Office demanding free Tibet.
The CPN-Maoist is the only party that has supported crackdown by Chinese military against the Tibetans in Lhasa last month and condemned the demonstrations staged by the Tibetan refugees in Kathmandu demanding freedom and human rights.
The protestors including monks shouted "Down with China", "We want freedom in Tibet" during the demonstration. The police pushed the demonstrators into vans and took them to a nearby police station, witnesses said.
"We will continue our protests until the Chinese authorities end protests," one of the protestors said.
The Tibetans had postponed their protests in the Nepalese capital since April first week in the wake of the April 10 election.
They have been demonstrating almost daily in Kathmandu since March 10 to show solidarity with the Tibetan's freedom movement.
