Saturday, April 19, 2008 01:36 [IST]

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani activist has demanded police register a criminal case against President Pervez Musharraf over a crackdown on militant Red mosque that left at least 100 people dead.

Khalid Khawaja said he submitted the application to police in Islamabad on Friday.

It accuses Musharraf and other officials in the deaths of a senior cleric and others in the commando raid on the capital's Red Mosque last July.

About 200 Islamic hard-liners rallied outside the mosque before marching to the police station with Khwaja.

Officer Shabbir Hussain confirmed police had received the application but did not say whether they would register a case against the president.

Hussain said police would proceed
