Saturday, April 19, 2008 21:06 [IST]

Raipur: At least eight devotees were killed and 22 injured on Saturday when a vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a van in Chhattisgarh, the police said here.

The incident took place in Surguja district in the state's extreme northern region, some 500 km from here.

The police said the speeding matador van, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into the parked utility vehicle carrying about 30 people including several women and children who were on their way to a Hindu shrine at Ramgarh in the district.

H.K. Rathor, Surguja district superintendent of police, said the 22 injured, including about a dozen women, were rushed to the government district hospital in Ambikapur town, district headquarters of Surguja.
