New Delhi: Denizens of national capital will get another chance to settle their pending challans this month as Delhi Police is organising a mega traffic lok adalat after the success of its two earlier editions.

The lok adalats, jointly organised by Delhi Legal Service Authority (DLSA) and Traffic Police, will be held on April 27 and May 18 at the Tis Hazari, Karkordooma, Patiala House and Rohini courts.

This is the third time in six months that the Police and DLSA are organising a lok adalat to settle pending challans, a senior police official said.

During the first two mega adalats, a total of 80,053 cases relating to compoundable and petty offences were settled and Rs 88.66 lakh realised from the offenders, the official said.

The first adalat was held on September 8 and 9 last year, during which 42,567 cases relating to compoundable and petty traffic offences were disposed of and compounding fee of Rs 58.21 lakh was realised.

In the second adalat, which was held on December 9 and 16 last year, 38,316 traffic challans of private and commercial vehicles were settled. An amount of Rs 30.44 lakh was collected at that time.

"This is a golden opportunity for those who have challans pending against them," the official said, adding they even have the opportunity to challenge the challans.

To know the pendencey of challans, the official said, mobile users can SMS "N" followed by a space and registration number of the vehicle to 50100 from any mobile.

The details are also fed in the traffic police website, www.delhitrafficpolice.nic.in.
