India, UAE sign MoU on air service

New Delhi: In order to give a fillip to the country's air services to middle-east, India and UAE today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the revised air service operations between the two countries.

Under the new agreement, Calicut will now be an additional point of call for the designated airlines of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The agreement will add 23,000 seats per week, in each direction.

There will be 39,200 seats per week in each direction with immediate effect, 48,200 seats per week in each direction from Winter 2008-09,51,200 seats per week in each direction with effect from summer 2009 and 54,200 seats per week in each direction from winter 2009-10.

India also has requested for the inclusion of a provision for "change of gauge" in Dubai and Indian territory, for both sides in the Air Services Agreement, the release added.
