Friday, April 25, 2008 02:10 [IST]

Paris: French President Nicolas Sarkozy said today he was "shocked" by the recent unrest in Tibet and called on China to give greater autonomy to the mountainous province.

"I was shocked by what happened in Tibet," Sarkozy said in a prime-time television interview. "The province of Tibet needs to have greater autonomy," he said, while stressing that Tibet must remain part of China.
